Celtic Cross and Life Balance- Sacred Life Sunday

Island of Iona, Scotland

Iona is a beautiful, small speck of an Island off the western coast of Scotland 3 miles long and 1 mile wide with 2000 acres in total area. http://www.isle-of-iona.com/  This is where Joan Anderson traveled to connect with the spirit and her heritage.  While there, she visits an artist in his studio.  He is hand carving Celtic Crosses.  She asks him about the significance of the circle in the center of all the Celtic Crosses.  He responds that the circle is where all opposites come together.  It is a stabilizing element for the cross.  He further explains that another thought some have is that the circle “represents mother - the woman - who holds it all together.”  I, like Joan, am interested in crosses, not for their religious significance but for the beauty of the art that can be a representation of crossroads.  Haven’t we all been at a [...]

Shouting from the mountain tops….

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 31-08-2008

This week has been very good.  As most of you know I took a break off from writing for my blog.  Except for Friday.  I was able to work on Philter48 some, and able to write a much needed letter to my brother in-laws. Which I will mail this week.
Before I get back to regular posting and ad what I hope will be a new regular feature(Couple weeks away), I have something to say.
There comes a moment in a person’s life when they need to shout something from a mountain top.   I am at a mountain top with my Faith, and God had brought me here.  This is one of the letters God placed on my heart to write, and the first one that needs to be read by the most important person in my life.
So with that….

A Generative Space

This quote is from Ikon’s “Queer” service.  It embodies the very space I would like to be part of and participate in.
“But in this room, for the next hour, we lay down these debates to concentrate on the fact that all are welcome at the table and to reaffirm that the only ones who are excluded are those who exclude themselves by not wanting to sit with others, listen to others, learn from others and love others.  We are a community attempting to work out what it means to be open to God, to loving and to being transformed in love and as such, the community is primarily for those who embrace this journey - whether conservative, or liberal, protestant or catholic, theist or atheist, gay or straight.  This is the unity that exists amidst our diversity - this is why we need this place.”

The prius affect

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 31-08-2008

Maybe they met on the ride? I was speaking with a German friend last week about girl stuff–like catalyst converters and carbon emissions in Germany. Well after talk moved on from boys and shoes, we stumbled upon what I think should be called: the Prius effect. You’ve heard about it; it’s a way that some believe they’re doing their bit by driving their hybrid. Everywhere.
Andrea went home to Germany to visit parents and relatives during the summertime. On a sunny Hamburg day, sitting with neighbours on lawn chairs, the neighbours sitting next to her saw a neighbour’s friend driving up with a VW 1968 Bettle from the shop down he road, obviously unable to be outfitted with the newest carbon reductions technologies which mask several of the most significant chemicals (methane and carbon, among others).
They, after eating lunch, promptly got in their 2008 Prius and drove to the store to buy [...]

A pause on my journey

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 31-08-2008

I have been on this path for a while.  I recently moved and, unfortunately, lost or misplace what supplies and books I had.  I recently bought a book for background information and to get some ideas and a reading list together.  I am serious about starting to study more about pagan paths, and the Wiccan path specifically.  I’ll post here about my progress, obstacles, and anything else I can share.

traveling the obscure path

Matthew 7:14 ESV

For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
That is a rather blunt statement.
Narrow, hard, few…hmmmmmmmmmmm
An error of understanding, a wrong belief, a dangerous and deceiving underlying thought–that the faith journey is meant to be about feeling good, about reward, about doing things right, about living right, or about somehow, through religious activity, keeping our life under control.  Since I erred so significantly in having these very beliefs, I sense that my approach, though limited by experience, is echoed by many who have embarked upon the faith journey and found it a wild ride.
Who is God?   Who am I?   What is life about?   These aren’t trite questions, though they are asked regularly.  Perhaps, my journey on these narrow trails, some of whom seem to disappear in the underbrush or are washed out by [...]

Faculty Introduction

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 31-08-2008

On Friday, August 29, there was a faculty introduction. It was soooo nice. The people, the situation, and the facilities are sooo wooow!!! I will tell here shortly. At the first, we were introduced about our faculty and our department. Then we enrolled our courses in computer room. After that, we made a pose for each of our department then we were guided by our mentor to walk around the faculty. Hmmm. Great.

At a glance after that, we had a journey! We travelled around Delft ancient city using a boat, passing the river accross Delft city. I saw many things. A building in which Indische Partij was here, Max Havelaar school, the oldest bridge in Delft, etc. Alhamdulillah. It was so nice.

After traveling Delft, we went to Rijswijk, a really homey city, to eat for dinner. It was looked like a party for Indonesian’s student [...]
